Pettit Creek Falls

Pettit Creek Falls

6/10/2021: We only did the much shorter version of the Pettit Lake to Twin Lakes hike. This is an easy trail if you just do the portion we did. It was a pleasant hike with lots of wildflowers and a pretty little waterfalls at our turnaround point. It was snowing and we had the falls all to ourselves. We had no idea that the falls were there when we started the hike, so it was a wonderful surprise. We may not have gone to the falls, as the day was meant to be a very easy, short day, but we met a lady along the way who told us the falls were beautiful. We asked how far ahead, she said 20 minutes, and we figured we could handle another 20 minutes. So glad we did; turned a two heart hike into three hearts. There are multiple backpacking opportunities. See the map.

Here is a video of the falls.

Marg’s Notes: Last Day. Cold. Rain & snow predicted. Since the weather report was bad, we left later than previous days. Our plan was to do another exploratory trip along Hwy 75. We decided to head towards Pettit Lake since we did not go there before. It is between Redfish & Alturas lakes. Along the way, we stopped at some free campsites & found a really nice one. Rod took a pic w/ geo coordinates. At the lake we drove in to check out the campground. It was cold & snowing a bit! We noticed a trailhead sign & stopped to investigate. Rod started talking to some people in the parking lot… There was a 1.2 mile hike. We decided to take it. Chilly, but beautiful! Different flowers. We met a woman along the way who told us that there was a waterfall ~20 minutes past the entry to the wilderness, so we decided to try it. Beautiful! It was snowing a lot! Had a bar & H2O. Headed back after lots of pics. I got cold!

Dinner at Mama Inez. VERY GOOD!
